Friend Health Medical Campus

Woodlawn, Chicago

Friend Health Woodlawn HQ, supported by federal NMTC allocation, revitalized an economically distressed neighborhood in Chicago's Woodlawn area, creating a 38,000 sq. ft. medical facility, generating over 200 jobs, and contributing to the strategic revitalization of the 63rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue intersection.

Friend Health Medical Campus

In 2022, DL3 and its client, Friend Family Health Center, celebrated the grand opening of Phase I of the new healthcare campus, including a renovated 45,000 square-foot clinic. Phase I provides essential physical, behavioral, and dental health services to the Woodlawn community. This medically underserved area, which has few primary care providers, high poverty, high infant mortality, and a high elderly population, will now receive access to vital medical care. The medical campus expands access to affordable healthcare, revitalizes a blighted building in the 63rd Street corridor, and creates job opportunities. The Friend Health campus is a place where the people of Woodlawn and the South Side of Chicago will come, not only for healing, but to maintain and support healthy lives. The project is located at E. 63rd Street and S. Cottage Grove Avenue, with convenient access to transportation. Phase II, supported by a $2.5 million Chicago Recovery Grant, is currently in development. Friend Health is part of a larger strategy to create a strong corridor on 63rd Street — building upon a rich cultural legacy, while planning for the future.

DL3 Realty, alongside local stakeholders, has been involved in a master planning effort for this intersection's strategic revitalization, aligning with the four-corner strategy. Friend Health, a federally qualified health center, will serve over 60,000 patients annually at this new facility.
